The light and switch are not protected by the gfci receptacle. This gfci wiring provides protection to a duplex receptacle outlet at the end of the series. By connecting the load terminals on the last gfci, the wall outlet at the end is protected and can be used just as if it were one of the gfci receptacles. One ground fault circuit interrupter at the beginning of the circuit can be used in the same way to protect multiple, subsequent wall outlets in a row as illustrated in the next diagram below.
This diagram illustrates the wiring for multiple ground fault circuit interrupter receptacles with an unprotected duplex receptacle at the end of the circuit. The load terminals on the gfci are not used and the last receptacle is wired directly to the circuit source. With this wiring each gfci provides single-location protection and the last outlet in the series is not protected from ground faults.
This diagram illustrates the wiring for a circuit with 2 gfci receptacles followed by a light and switch. Thank you Solaris Electric! He explains everything and goes the extra mile to make sure everything is perfect. He gives great advice too and genuinely wants to help. This last time they came out to replace the breaker panel in our home and it was obvious how knowledgeable they really are.
Called at this morning and they had someone out to my home by Diagnosed and fixed the problem right away. These guys know their stuff and reasonably priced too! Came out on a Sunday and took care of a breaker. Explained what had happened and how we could avoid it in the future.
Would use them again! Our Standards are developed through a consensus-based process, which integrates scientific and testing expertise with input from our Standards Technical Panel STP members and stakeholders.
STP members represent a variety of interests, including industry, academia, government, retail, and manufacturing. If you are involved in the construction, installation, inspection, sale, or use of ground-fault circuit interrupters, and you would like to help improve safety in your industry, please submit a proposal or apply to join STP We can also perform any home electrical rewiring you may require. Family protection: In a modern world, you and your family may sometimes need to use electrically powered appliances or tools in the same room as, or nearby, a water source.
GFCI outlets help prevent accidents from happening that can cause burn injury or severe electric shock. You can simply reset your outlet and restore power, right there where you are, in the kitchen or bathroom. Alternatively, we can install the GFCI at the main breaker panel if that provides you easier access. We can also perform general electric panel upgrades for your home.
