In reply to A. User's post on May 21, Many thanks for the response Anshul Arora. None of those had an impact on the problem. I have now started a reinstall as a last resort, as the client wants it back and time is of the essence.
I have however made a copy of the system, for future testing. Before that I used a process monitor to see which programs and registry keys are being accessed when I click on the orb I couldn't find something helpful there either. If I knew which registry keys and files dll and exe are linked to the orb and it's functionality, I might be able to come up with a fix.
Maybe it's a dll linked to the explorer. Something that controls the task bar, the start menu and the orb Or, for some reason something changed the permissions in the registry to these items, thus the system cannot access them resulting in the issue?
